Fukuoka City seeks operators for Nagahama Fish Market redevelopment

Fukuoka City has announced a public tender to repurpose the former East Refrigeration Building at the Nagahama Fish Market. The city aims to transform the site into a new ‘food spot’ to boost fish consumption and enhance the market's brand recognition.

The project involves a three-story building with a total floor area of 7,217 square meters. Under the proposal, the city will lease the land and building to a private operator, who will be responsible for facility development and independent business operations for a term of 20 to 30 years. The city has committed to covering up to 654.71 million yen for certain renovation and demolition costs.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to revitalize the Nagahama area, which includes the recently opened ‘Uoza’ facility. By creating a landmark destination, the city hopes to attract citizens, visitors, and new demographics to the market area.
