Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly member faces censure over anonymous social media posts

The Fukuoka Prefectural Assembly is facing turmoil following the discovery that Liberal Democratic Party member Taisho Hayashi was using an anonymous X (formerly Twitter) account to post aggressive content targeting other lawmakers.

The situation came to light after Hayashi mistakenly posted content intended for his anonymous account to his real-name account. The posts targeted Genaki Yoshimatsu, a prefectural assembly member who had previously raised allegations regarding suspected monetary exchanges involving the assembly's leadership positions. Yoshimatsu has since submitted a motion for a censure resolution against Hayashi.

Hayashi, a former secretary to former assembly speaker Isao Kurauchi, had previously used an emergency motion to block a resolution calling for Kurauchi's resignation.

Commenting on the incident, former Osaka Mayor and lawyer Toru Hashimoto criticized the behavior, stating that while anonymous accounts may have a place for whistleblowing, elected officials should speak under their real names. Hashimoto suggested that politicians using anonymous accounts for such purposes should be strictly prohibited.
