Fukuoka Prefecture launches app contest for students
Fukuoka Prefecture has announced the fifth annual App Contest for elementary and junior high school students. The initiative aims to foster interest in the IT industry by encouraging young people to create digital works through hands-on experience.
Participants will use ‘Spriggin’, a visual programming application that allows users to create games and picture books without needing to write text. This year’s contest focuses on two specific themes: ‘One Health’ (such as stories about caring for pets or fighting viruses) and ‘Disaster Prevention and Crime Prevention’ (such as mazes to avoid fires).
The application period runs from June 22 to October 23, 2026. A public judging session is scheduled for December 19, 2026, to determine the grand prize winners. The program is organized by the Fukuoka Prefecture Future IT Initiative and Fukuoka Prefecture, with support from the Fukuoka Prefectural Board of Education and the Ruby Association.
