Fukuoka's Miyama City Council Calls for Review of One Health Center Project

The Miyama City Council in Fukuoka Prefecture held an emergency session on August 7 and unanimously passed an opinion paper demanding a full investigation into the high overseas travel expenses paid by the prefectural government and a verification of the proposed One Health Center, a joint human‑animal health initiative. The council also urged the prefecture to reconsider allocating ten hectares of city‑owned land for the center’s construction, warning that the project could stall without proper scrutiny. The opinion will be submitted to Governor Seita Hattori early next week.

The move reflects growing local concerns over the transparency of the prefecture’s overseas trips and the feasibility of the One Health concept, which aims to integrate human and animal health policies under a single framework.
