Full-fat dairy consumption linked to no significant weight or cholesterol changes in new study

A study published in The Journal of Nutrition suggests that consuming full-fat dairy up to three times a week may not negatively impact weight, body composition, or cholesterol levels.

The research involved 74 participants classified as overweight or obese, comparing a low-dairy, calorie-restricted diet against diets that included three servings of full-fat dairy daily. Over a 12-week period, researchers found no meaningful differences in weight gain or lipid levels between the groups. Additionally, participants consuming more dairy did not show increased signs of insulin resistance.

Lead author G. Harvey Anderson, Ph.D., from the University of Toronto, noted that the group consuming more dairy saw improvements in blood pressure and higher intake of calcium, protein, and vitamin D. Anderson stated, “The fear of fat in dairy has completely misled us about dairy and its advantages.”
