Japan celebrates Mid-Autumn Moon with cultural festivals and astronomical events
Various cultural and astronomical events marked the Mid-Autumn Moon season across Japan. In Nemuro, the moon illuminated Hanasaki Port, creating a scenic view near the Hanasaki Lighthouse.
In Takatsuki, the Ama Yayoi Viewing Party was held at Amami Ruins Park, featuring traditional folk songs, brass quintets, and food stalls. Similarly, Yamadaike Park hosted a moon-viewing event at Kanzu-tsutsumi, though cloudy skies limited visibility.
Astronomically, the full moon occurring on September 27, 2026, provided a unique opportunity to observe a conjunction with Saturn. This Harvest Moon event allowed for naked-eye viewing of the planet near the moon.
Regional cultural festivities also included the Yamagata Hanakoji Autumn Festival, which showcased Yamagata Maiko performances and traditional games, attracting approximately 1,700 visitors.
