FUNAE aims to reopen Palma fuel station by December
Mozambique’s Energy Fund (FUNAE) expects to complete the rehabilitation of a fuel station in the Palma district of Cabo Delgado province by December this year. The facility was vandalized during insurgent attacks in 2021, which disrupted essential services in the region.
FUNAE Board Chairman Mety Gondola announced the timeline following a monitoring visit to fuel stations in the Palma, Mecúfi, and Metuge districts. The restoration project in Palma involves replacing damaged equipment, restoring storage tanks, and assessing water and electricity systems to ensure operational readiness.
Reopening the station is intended to alleviate pressure on the two currently operational facilities, which are struggling to meet local demand for vehicles and vessels. Restoring fuel infrastructure is considered a key step in normalizing economic activity in the district as it recovers from armed conflict and extreme weather events.
