Funai building targeted by explosive attack in Paraná indigenous land

A building belonging to the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples (Funai) in São Jerônimo da Serra, Paraná, was targeted by an explosive device on the night of Thursday, October 8. The attack struck the Local Technical Unit (UTL) located within the São Jerônimo Indigenous Land.

While the explosion caused significant material damage, including broken windows and a damaged entrance, authorities confirmed that no one was injured as the building was empty at the time. The facility serves approximately 670 people from the Guarani Ñandeva, Kaingang, and Xetá indigenous groups.

The Ministry of Indigenous Peoples and Funai have condemned the act, describing it as an attempt by extremists to intimidate the state and obstruct indigenous land rights. The Federal Police and the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin) have been mobilized to investigate the incident and identify those responsible.
