Funai recognizes 708 good-faith occupations in Tupinambá de Olivença land

The National Indigenous Peoples Foundation (Funai) has classified 708 non-indigenous occupations within the Tupinambá de Olivença Indigenous Land as being in ‘good faith’. This decision follows an analysis of 748 inspected occupations in the territory, which covers areas in Ilhéus, Buerarema, and Una.

An additional 40 occupations were listed separately because technical reports did not identify improvements eligible for compensation, though this does not categorize them as being in ‘bad faith’. The current resolution does not establish specific compensation values or authorize immediate payments.

Funai will establish a new technical group to continue the registration and analysis of remaining occupations. Interested parties have 30 days from the publication of the resolution to file a reasoned appeal through Funai’s digital protocol or in person.
