FUNCEX granted Consultative Observer status in CPLP

The Foundation for Foreign Trade and International Relations (FUNCEX), based in Rio de Janeiro, has been granted “Consultative Observer” status within the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). The decision was approved by the CPLP Council of Ministers during its XXXI Ordinary Meeting held in Dili, Timor-Leste.

FUNCEX is one of 14 entities from Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, Portugal, and Timor-Leste to receive this status. This designation establishes an institutional channel for the foundation within the Lusophone space, supporting its ongoing internationalization efforts. The foundation currently operates FUNCEX Europe in Portugal and FUNCEX Mercosul in Uruguay to facilitate connections between South America, Africa, and the European Union.

Antonio Carlos da Silveira Pinheiro, president of FUNCEX, stated that the move aims to position the foundation as a “technical bridge between South America, Lusophone Africa, and the European Union.” The institution will celebrate 50 years of activity in 2026.
