Funchal City Council faces criticism over road maintenance and housing
Luís Filipe Santos, a CHEGA party councilor for the Funchal City Council, has called for municipal meetings to prioritize the daily practical problems of residents over administrative processes and regulations.
Santos highlighted that the current agenda includes several compensation claims from citizens due to poor road conditions, such as damage caused by potholes in Santo António and issues with metal covers on degraded pavement in Rua da Conceição. He argued that the council should focus on repairing infrastructure to prevent these damages rather than managing the resulting indemnity requests.
Regarding housing, the council is set to discuss the contract for the New Housing Complex at Quinta das Freiras, which includes 71 units. While supporting the need for more housing, Santos emphasized the opposition's role in monitoring public spending to ensure projects are completed. Other agenda items include a draft regulation for a municipal tourism tax and the start of procedures for a new municipal regulation on urbanization and building.
