Funchal hosts 23rd Traditional Canoe Regatta

The 23rd Funchal Traditional Canoe Regatta took place in the Bay of Funchal, featuring 29 participating canoes. The event, promoted by the Funchal City Council and organized by the Madeira Regional Canoeing Association, aimed to preserve the cultural heritage and fishing traditions of the Madeira region.

The canoe ‘Bernardete’ secured first place with a time of 20 minutes and 22 seconds. It was followed by ‘Kiko’ in second place (20:27) and ‘Madeirinha’ in third (21:19). In the female category, ‘Pequena Sofia’ was the first female vessel to cross the finish line, recording a time of 30 minutes and 25 seconds.

The approximately 2.5-kilometer course began at Cais de São Lázaro, passed by Praia da Barreirinha, and returned to the starting point. This year's edition was notable for including representation from all municipalities within the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
