Fundación Caja Rural del Sur to restore La Rábida frescoes

The Fundación Caja Rural del Sur has announced a project to restore the Daniel Vázquez Díaz frescoes located in the Monasterio de La Rábida. The announcement was made during a meeting between the foundation's president, José Luis García-Palacios Álvarez, and the prior of the Franciscan order, Miguel Vallecillo Martí.

Completed in 1930, the frescoes, titled ‘El poema del Descubrimiento’, represent a significant work of 20th-century Spanish mural art. The paintings depict the preparations for Christopher Columbus's voyage to the Americas and include portraits of local figures such as friars, peasants, and sailors from the Huelva region. The last comprehensive restoration of these works was completed in January 1992.
