Fundación Canal hosts Dante's Inferno exhibition

The Fundación Canal in Madrid has opened a new exhibition titled ‘El infierno de Dante. Doré y Rauschenberg’, which brings together two distinct artistic interpretations of Dante Alighieri’s ‘Divine Comedy’. Curated by Lola Durán, the exhibition features 111 graphic works that create a dialogue between two different eras and techniques.

The collection includes 76 wood engravings by the 19th-century French artist Gustave Doré, many of which originate from a significant Italian collection. These works are known for their dramatic use of chiaroscuro. They are presented alongside 35 offset lithographs by the 20th-century American artist Robert Rauschenberg, created in 1965 using mixed media such as gouache, crayon, and pencil on images sourced from magazines like Time and Life.

The exhibition follows a chronological path through the nine circles of Hell and is open to the public in Madrid until January 5.
