Mexico SEP launches consultation to replace USICAMM teacher career system

SEP USICAMM teacher career system Mario Delgado Carrillo Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo

The Mexican Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) has initiated a national consultation to determine the future of the Unit for the System for the Career of Teachers and School Staff (USICAMM). The process, occurring during the second ordinary session of the School Technical Council, seeks to establish a new mechanism for teacher hiring, promotions, and job assignments.

Secretary of Education Mario Delgado Carrillo stated that the initiative fulfills a commitment by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo to eliminate USICAMM. The consultation involves a questionnaire for teachers nationwide, with results expected to be released on November 5. These findings will inform a reform initiative scheduled to be sent to Congress by the President later this month.

Some educators have expressed criticism of the consultation process on social media, alleging that the questionnaire is a simulation and that the options provided limit meaningful participation or favor predetermined outcomes.
