Fundación INCANTO presents Puccini’s ‘Tosca’ in Nicaragua

The Fundación INCANTO presented Giacomo Puccini’s opera ‘Tosca’ at the Teatro Nacional Rubén Darío in Managua as part of its Second Lyrical Season 2026. The production was offered to the public free of charge, aiming to bring international operatic repertoire to Nicaraguan families while showcasing local artistic talent.

The performance featured a collaboration of various musical groups, including the Schola Cantorum, the Rubén Darío Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Camerata Bach, accompanied by pianist Juan Mena Nicolás. The cast included Katherine Velásquez in the title role, Laureano Ortega as Cavaradossi, and José Luis Leytón as Scarpia.

In addition to the musical performance, the production involved multidisciplinary work in stage direction, set design, and costume design, with the latter coordinated by Xiomara Argeñal in collaboration with Nicaragua Diseña. Laureano Ortega Murillo, director of INCANTO, emphasized the importance of providing access to high-level lyrical works through these artistic seasons.
