Fundación Jiménez Díaz advances in neonatal care accreditation
The Fundación Jiménez Díaz University Hospital has successfully completed phase 1D of the Neo-IHAN initiative, marking the first step in the accreditation process for its Neonatal Unit.
This recognition supports a model of care for newborns that integrates medical and nutritional needs with breastfeeding support, family involvement, and humanized assistance. The hospital has previously implemented initiatives such as an open-door policy, family visits, and accreditation as a recipient of donated human milk.
Neo-IHAN is an extension of the Initiative for the Humanization of Birth Assistance and Breastfeeding (IHAN) and is part of the international Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. The accreditation process consists of four phases designed to implement evidence-based practices that protect breastfeeding and improve care for newborns and their families.
