Fundación Mapfre report debunks aging myths through senior consumer study
The sixth Senior Consumer Barometer, conducted by Fundación Mapfre’s Ageingnomics Research Center, challenges common myths regarding aging and lifestyle habits among individuals over 55.
According to the study, 75% of seniors maintain a healthy diet, and 57% engage in regular physical exercise, contradicting stereotypes of widespread sedentary behavior. The data also indicates a proactive approach to preventive health: 53% undergo medical check-ups, 53% avoid alcohol and tobacco, and 50% prioritize adequate sleep.
Regarding healthcare utilization, the report suggests that seniors do not visit medical centers as frequently as often assumed. Approximately 81% of the population visits healthcare facilities less than once a month, with only 1% attending weekly. While frequency increases after age 70, 75% of that group still visits less than once a month.
On a psychological level, 79% of respondents report being fairly or very happy, a sentiment that tends to improve with age. Additionally, 38% of seniors actively manage their emotional health, a figure that rises to 43% among those aged 60 to 64.
