Fundación Mundo Marino releases six rescued penguins

Six penguins have been released back into the sea in San Clemente del Tuyú after completing rehabilitation at the Fundación Mundo Marino Rescue Center. The group consists of four Magellanic penguins and two rockhopper penguins (also known as crested penguins).

The Magellanic penguins were rescued after becoming entangled in artisanal fishing nets in the San Clemente area. Some individuals suffered severe cuts under their flippers that required sutures, while another suffered a partial loss of its right flipper.

The two rockhopper penguins were found in Mar de Ajó and the Faro Querandí area with oil on their plumage. They underwent specialized cleaning and stabilization processes to treat the oil exposure, alongside treatment for malnutrition and dehydration.

Because penguins are gregarious animals, the Foundation waited to release them as a group to facilitate their reintegration into the wild.
