Federico García Lorca's legacy highlighted by new film 'La bola negra

The release of the film ‘La bola negra’ by directors Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, known as Los Javis, has sparked significant cultural discussion regarding the legacy of poet Federico García Lorca. The film is inspired by a four-page unfinished manuscript written by Lorca before his execution in 1936, which reportedly addressed themes of homosexuality through the story of a young man rejected from a casino.

The production draws from Lorca’s fragments and the play ‘La piedra oscura’ by Alberto Conejero. The film features a cast including Penélope Cruz, Glenn Close, and Miguel Bernardeau, and has gained attention through its presence at the San Sebastián Festival and its selection to represent Spain in the international film awards.

In addition to the cinematic release, other artistic tributes are occurring. The Fundación Rajatabla in Venezuela is staging ‘La muerte de García Lorca’ to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the poet's death. Meanwhile, the documentary ‘La voz quebrada’ by Manuel Menchón explores the private life of Lorca and his relationship with Juan Ramírez de Lucas.
