Fundación Sociedad Portuaria delivers boats to Santa Marta fishermen

The Fundación Sociedad Portuaria de Santa Marta has delivered five new boats to artisanal fishing associations in the Santa Marta Bay. This initiative, part of the Productive Development in Artisanal Fishing project, represents an investment of 350 million Colombian pesos.

The delivery aims to strengthen the productive capacity and income generation for 157 fishermen across five organizations: FUNDEPESAN, FUNPESCA SAN MART, ASOPESMAR & TOUR, APSINBAS, and COOIPESCA.

The vessels are constructed from fiberglass-reinforced plastic, measuring 22 feet in length with a capacity of up to 1,167 kilograms. Each boat is equipped with a 40-horsepower outboard motor and essential safety and navigation gear, including life jackets, fire extinguishers, oars, anchors, portable marine VHF radios, compasses, and first aid kits. All boats have been registered with the Dirección General Marítima (DIMAR).

In addition to the equipment, the project included training processes supported by the Autoridad Nacional de Acuicultura y Pesca (AUNAP), covering fishing techniques, environmental conservation, responsible fishing, and equipment maintenance.
