Fundação da Casa de Bragança honors composer João Lourenço Rebelo

The Fundação da Casa de Bragança held a concert at the Igreja dos Agostinhos in Vila Viçosa to honor the 17th-century Portuguese composer João Lourenço Rebelo. The event aimed to evoke the historical connection between the Minho region and Alentejo, tracing Rebelo’s journey from Caminha to Vila Viçosa as a child.

During his time in Vila Viçosa, Rebelo served as a choir boy at the Palace and developed a close relationship with the future King João IV. The concert featured various musical groups, including the Orfeão de Vila Praia de Âncora and local student groups from Vila Viçosa, to encourage interest in musical heritage among younger generations. João de Azevedo, president of the Fundação da Casa de Bragança, noted that the composer's works often possess a high level of vocal complexity.
