Fundação Mendes Gonçalves launches soil regeneration guide

The Fundação Mendes Gonçalves has launched a new guide titled ‘Proteção e Regeneração do Solo’ (Soil Protection and Regeneration) to promote sustainable agricultural practices. Developed under the Regenerar program with financial support from the Soilscape project and aligned with the Horizon Europe Soil Mission, the guide aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and practical farming.

The publication emphasizes that regenerative agriculture is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution. Instead, it advocates for a methodology based on assessing the physical, chemical, and biological dimensions of the soil. The guide recommends a process involving territory mapping, field observation, and laboratory analysis to ensure that interventions are tailored to the specific limitations and potential of each individual farm and crop.

This initiative arrives as the agricultural sector faces increasing challenges from climate change, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss, seeking to build more resilient and productive food production systems.
