Fundenicc reports surgical and bed shortages in Santiago
Diógenes Cruz, president of the Foundation for Crohn's and Colitis Disease of the Northern Region (Fundenicc), has reported critical shortages at the Hospital Regional Universitario José María Cabral y Báez in Santiago. The foundation highlighted a lack of available surgeons and inpatient beds, citing a case where a patient waited 15 days in an emergency room chair without receiving necessary intestinal surgery.
In a separate development, the National Council of Social Security (CNSS) approved the inclusion of 13 high-cost medications into the coverage scheme for biological treatments. While Cruz expressed gratitude for this decision, which addresses long-standing economic burdens for patients, he urged the government to accelerate implementation. The resolution states that coverage for these medications is scheduled to begin in November 2026.
