Fundraising campaign targets R$ 5.2 million for Fleming brothers' gene therapy

A fundraising campaign is underway in Rio Branco, Brazil, to fund medical treatment for brothers Pedro and Tiago Fleming. The children have been diagnosed with Limb-Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 2C (LGMD2C), a rare and progressive genetic disease that affects muscle strength and mobility. They have been accepted to participate in a clinical gene therapy protocol in the United States.

The family aims to raise approximately R$ 5.2 million (roughly US$ 1 million) to cover medical costs, travel, and technical support. To date, the mobilization has raised over R$ 3.2 million, reaching more than 60% of the goal.

Local initiatives are supporting the cause, including a media partnership with Portal Acre, which is offering advertising packages where proceeds go directly to the campaign. Additionally, the Ministério Internacional Vida Plena is hosting a charity bazaar featuring approximately 1,500 new clothing items to raise further funds.
