Funeral etiquette guidance and Italy's 19% tax relief for funeral expenses

Guidelines for funeral conduct emphasize discreet behavior, appropriate attire and respectful communication with grieving families. Practices include arriving early, avoiding disruptive comments and using dedicated online condolence spaces to protect privacy.

In Italy, taxpayers can claim a 19% deduction for funeral-related costs on the 730/2026 form, regardless of kinship with the deceased. Eligible expenses—funeral services, transport, burial fees, obituary notices and floral tributes—are subject to a €1,550 per‑deceased cap and income‑based limits. Deductions require documented, traceable payments such as bank transfers or card receipts. The benefit phases out for incomes above €120,000 and disappears beyond €240,000. Similar provisions allow foreign‑incurred funeral expenses with appropriate translated documentation.
