Guardia Civil officer Laura Cruz honored in funeral after fatal domestic‑violence killing in Llanes
Laura Cruz Vega, a Guardia Civil officer in Llanes, Asturias, was killed on Wednesday by her ex‑partner, also a member of the force. The assailant entered the barracks and was shot dead by fellow officers. At her funeral, the parish priest Florentino Hoyos urged, “Que ninguna mujer tenga que vivir bajo el miedo.” A guard of honor escorted her coffin to the Basilica of Santa María, and officials including President of the Principado Adrián Barbón, regional delegate Jesús Moreno del Valle, and senior officers such as Captain Francisco García Pérez and Colonel Francisco Javier Puerta attended.
Earlier, Cruz had sought a protection order in December, which a judge denied despite a history of abuse and numerous complaints against her ex‑partner, Dámaso F. S. The case has highlighted concerns over domestic‑violence safeguards for law‑enforcement personnel.
