Funeral of Metropolitan Theologos of Ikonio attended by Ecumenical Patriarch and Greek officials
On Tuesday, 23 June 2026, the late Metropolitan of Ikonio, Theologos, was laid to rest following full ecclesiastical protocol. A Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Pan‑episcopal Patriarchal Temple by Metropolitan Stephanos of Kalloupolis and Madytos, after which a funeral trisagion was chanted for the hierarch’s soul. The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew presided, and a procession led by numerous metropolitans from across the Orthodox world—including senior hierarchs from Greece, Sweden, Sweden, the United States, and other jurisdictions—accompanied the rites.
The burial took place at the Sisli cemetery, overseen by the Metropolitan of the Forty Churches. A commemorative service followed at the Patriarchal Marasli Urban School building, where Metropolitan Theodoros of Selucia delivered condolences on behalf of the Patriarchate. Greek diplomatic representation, relatives, former minister Marcos Bolaris, and members of the diaspora were also present.
