Paraíba regional updates: UFPB faculty disputes and cultural policy debates

The Association of University Teachers of the Federal University of Paraíba (ADUFPB) has called for a meeting to discuss changes to the rules for allocating teaching positions at UFPB. The union expressed concern over a new commission created by the University Rectory, which proposes that positions authorized by the Ministry of Education be managed by the Rectory rather than individual departments.

In Paraíba, the João Pessoa Cultural Foundation (Funjope) participated in a seminar titled ‘Law, Culture and Control’ held at the Court of Accounts of Paraíba (TCE-PB). The event, organized by the Ministry of Culture, focused on the new legal framework for cultural promotion and the role of oversight bodies in managing national culture policies.

In sports, the Paraíba delegation for the Brazilian School Games (JEBs) was presented in João Pessoa. The delegation includes over 250 athletes and staff traveling to Brasília. Additionally, the Paraíba Football Federation (FPF-PB) held a technical council to define the format and participating clubs for the 2026 Copa Paraíba.
