funk network faces transformation due to AI impact

The German public broadcasting online network funk is facing a period of radical transformation as it celebrates its tenth anniversary. Program Director Philipp Schild stated that artificial intelligence is set to fundamentally change the market, specifically regarding how algorithms sort content and how media is produced.

Schild noted that AI could allow users to turn a spoken idea into a video almost instantly and will enable content to be tailored individually to users. This shift is expected to create a significantly different competitive landscape for the network, which targets young people aged 14 to 29 through social media rather than traditional television.

Launched on October 1, 2016, funk currently offers approximately 60 different formats covering news, entertainment, and social topics. While the network has achieved 88 percent brand awareness within its target demographic, leadership emphasizes the need to adapt to these technological shifts to remain relevant.
