Funvisis reinstalls Cumaná Observatory to enhance seismic monitoring

The Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (Funvisis) has reinstalled the Cumaná Accelerographic Observatory (OCUM) in Sucre state. Located at the Saime headquarters, the observatory is part of a strategic effort to strengthen the National Accelerographic Network and improve early warning systems in eastern Venezuela.

This technical project, supported by Fundacite Sucre and the Universidad Politécnica Territorial del Oeste del estado Sucre, aims to provide real-time seismic monitoring. The data collected will assist in designing earthquake-resistant infrastructure and managing risks in a region with high tectonic activity.

In a separate development, Funvisis reported several low-intensity earthquakes across Venezuela on the night of September 25. Magnitudes ranged from 2.8 to 3.3 on the Richter scale. Notable activity included two consecutive tremors in Sucre state, a magnitude 2.8 event near La Victoria in Aragua, and a magnitude 3.1 tremor in Falcón state.
