FUOYE Vice-Chancellor resists police arrest attempt
Armed operatives from the Lagos State Police Command attempted to arrest the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi O. Ogunwole, at his residence early Wednesday morning. The officers reportedly arrived around 6:10 am and threatened to shoot resident guard dogs to facilitate the operation.
Professor Ogunwole stated that the officers claimed to have a warrant, but he initially refused to comply, requesting formal information regarding the basis of the arrest. The Vice-Chancellor linked the police action to a petition involving the university's former administration, specifically naming the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, and Dr. Kehinde Adetola of the Faculty of Law.
The attempted arrest triggered a large mobilization of FUOYE students and staff, who gathered at the residence in solidarity with the Vice-Chancellor. This collective presence created enough pressure to force the police operatives to withdraw from the premises. The dispute reportedly stems from an investigative committee process following a leaked audio recording, a matter that has since become subject to litigation.
