Furucomi portal launches to support regional revitalization in Japan

Punctual Co., Ltd. has officially launched ‘Furucomi’, a new hometown tax (furusato nozei) portal site designed to support regional revitalization. During a press conference in Tokyo, the company highlighted its competitive advantage: a platform usage fee of 2.5%, which is significantly lower than the industry average of approximately 9.7%. This lower fee structure aims to allow more funds to be returned to local municipalities and businesses.

The launch event featured comedian Chiyori Koyabu, who serves as the CM character, and Olympic wrestling medalist Saori Yoshida. They discussed their personal experiences with the tax system and the importance of supporting local communities. The event also included appearances by popular regional mascots, including Kumamon from Kumamoto and Hikonyan from Shiga Prefecture.

In addition to the portal launch, the company announced the ‘World Local Character Grand Prix’, which will include a ‘Hometown Tax Support Event’ from September 1 to December 11, 2026. This initiative allows supporters to contribute to their favorite local characters through donations, directly linking character popularity to regional tourism and product promotion.
