Fusengbuwa Ruling House sues over stalled Awujale selection

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House has initiated legal action in the Ogun State High Court due to a prolonged stalemate in the selection of the next Awujale. Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, Chairman of the ruling house, stated that the family can no longer wait indefinitely for the process to conclude.

The lawsuit names Governor Dapo Abiodun, the Awujale kingmakers, and other stakeholders as defendants. The dispute follows the completion of the family's selection steps, which they claim were finished within 10 days, well within the 14-day legal requirement. Despite this, the process has remained stalled for seven months.

During recent proceedings, Justice A. A. Omoniyi returned the case file to the administrative judge for reassignment. The judge noted that his upcoming annual vacation, which may last until January 2027, would prevent him from proceeding with the urgent matter. The case has been adjourned to September 23, 2026.
