Futaba to host summer festival for reconstruction and exchange
The summer festival ‘Tadaima Okaeri Futaba no Natsu 2026’ will be held on August 29, 2026, at the Great East Japan Earthquake and Nuclear Disaster Memorial Hall in Futaba, Fukushima Prefecture. Organized by the general incorporated association LOVE FOR NIPPON, the event focuses on themes of reconstruction and community exchange.
The festival features various cultural activities, including the Fukushima Futaba Kite Fighting—a tradition rooted in the Sanjo Kite Fighting of Niigata Prefecture—and the Hyōba Sendan Taiko drumming. Other scheduled highlights include Shizuoka-style handheld fireworks (tezutsu hanabi), music performances, and a candle night. The event aims to celebrate the progress of Futaba Town since residents began returning following the 2011 disaster.
