FUTO and ABU win Enactus Nigeria competition to represent nation in Brazil

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) have been named champions of the 2026 Enactus Nigeria National Competition. Both institutions will represent Nigeria at the Enactus World Cup in Brazil later this year, competing against winning innovations from 35 other countries.

FUTO achieved a double victory, winning the Enactus Early Stage Final with a biofuel project and the Julius Berger Innovation Challenge with ALTAR, a robot designed to detect structural and construction failures. ABU won the Enactus Advanced Stage Competition Final with two projects: NeemPest, an IAR-certified biopesticide that eliminates Tuta absoluta within 48 hours, and TomPa, a brand that processes surplus tomato harvests into powder and puree.

The competition, themed ‘Re-Imagining Transformation,’ involved 33 tertiary institutions. Projects were evaluated by experts based on innovation, scalability, profitability, and sustainability. Michael Ajayi, Country Director of Enactus Nigeria, noted that the projects demonstrate the ingenuity and resilience of a generation dedicated to solving societal problems through entrepreneurship.
