Australia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Future Fund, has reported a record 14.8 per cent return for the 2026 financial year, increasing its total value by $37.4 billion to $289.7 billion. This performance significantly exceeded the fund’s eight per cent target and the ASX200’s 2.8 per cent gain during the same period.

Alongside these financial results, the fund announced that chief executive Raphael Arndt will step down in December 2026 after nearly two decades with the agency. Arndt, who has served as CEO for the past six years, oversaw a $205 billion increase in funds under management during his tenure. The board will conduct a global search for an Australian candidate to succeed him.

Chairman Greg Combet noted that the strong results were achieved despite geopolitical uncertainty and market volatility. The fund has also been meeting new mandates to invest in domestic priority sectors, committing approximately $3.5 billion over the last 18 months toward energy transition, residential housing, and infrastructure.
