Futuro Nazionale gains Milan council presence as Italy prepares for legislative debates

In Milan, Luca Bernardo, a city councilor and former center-right mayoral candidate, has officially joined the Futuro Nazionale party, led by Roberto Vannacci. Bernardo, a pediatric specialist, previously ran for mayor in 2021 under the center-right coalition. His move provides Futuro Nazionale with an institutional presence in the Milan City Council as the party prepares to field a candidate for the upcoming municipal elections.

On the national level, the Italian Parliament is set to resume sessions on September 9, facing several contentious issues. A primary focus will be the proposed electoral reform championed by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. The reform faces resistance from coalition allies, specifically Lega and Forza Italia, regarding the potential introduction of voter preferences. Other significant legislative topics include budget allocations for energy and military expenditures, as well as internal party dynamics within the Lega and the center-left.

Meloni intends to reintroduce an amendment in the Senate to address electoral mechanisms, seeking to avoid the secret ballot complications that previously hindered progress in the Chamber of Deputies.
