Fuyao Glass introduces semitransparent solar roofs for vehicles
Fuyao Glass, a major global automotive glass manufacturer, has introduced a new semitransparent photovoltaic roof technology designed for vehicles. Unlike previous ambitious attempts to power entire vehicles through solar energy, this innovation focuses on providing electricity for auxiliary services.
The system integrates solar cells directly into the glass, maintaining a panoramic view while generating approximately 150 watts per square meter. This energy is intended to power low-consumption components such as internal ventilation, connected systems, onboard cameras, GPS, and lighting.
By utilizing solar energy for these accessories, the technology aims to improve overall energy efficiency and reduce the drain on the main battery, which is particularly beneficial for electric vehicles. The manufacturer notes that while the output is significant for auxiliary loads, it is not intended to replace traditional charging stations or serve as the primary power source for driving.
