Fuyao Glass introduces solar sunroof technology for vehicles

Fuyao Glass, a major global automotive glass supplier, has listed a new solar sunroof product on its official website. The technology integrates solar cell components into the glass interlayer to convert sunlight into electricity.

The product is capable of generating approximately 150W of power per square meter. This energy is intended to provide auxiliary power for various vehicle electronics, such as maintaining ventilation systems, supporting telematics/connectivity, and powering dashcams for 24-hour security monitoring. By providing supplemental power, the technology aims to reduce overall fuel or energy consumption.

While the technology represents a significant step in integrating photovoltaics into standard vehicle designs, industry analysis notes that the power generated is insufficient to fully drive a standard-sized vehicle. Instead, it serves as a supplementary power source for specific onboard systems.
