Fuzhou woman dies after long-term sedative use

A 60-year-old woman, identified as Ms. Xia, died suddenly in Fuzhou, Fujian, China, after suffering what appeared to be sudden cardiac arrest. Despite having no significant history of heart disease, she collapsed while spending time with her family.

Medical investigations revealed that Ms. Xia had been using sedatives for many years to manage chronic insomnia. Over time, she developed a dependency on the medication and had begun increasing her dosage to compensate for diminishing effectiveness. Doctors are using this incident to warn against the long-term misuse and self-adjustment of sedative dosages, which can pose life-threatening risks.
