FVMP urges CHJ to prioritize cleaning Turia riverbed and ravines

The Valencian Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FVMP) has formally requested that the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) prioritize the cleaning and maintenance of riverbeds and ravines. This request, sent by FVMP president Paqui Bartual to CHJ president Miguel Polo, aims to mitigate flood risks ahead of the autumn rainy season.

Local municipalities have expressed concern regarding the accumulation of spontaneous vegetation, reeds, weeds, and dry organic debris within the new Turia riverbed and various urban, peri-urban, and industrial ravines. The FVMP warns that this buildup could impede the effective evacuation of water during intense precipitation events.

The federation noted that this is a recurring issue, stating that a similar request was made last year. However, the FVMP claims it has yet to receive a technical plan or hold the requested coordination meeting. Consequently, the entity is now demanding the 2026 action plan to clarify responsibilities between the CHJ and other administrations.
