Fyli municipality investigates wolf attacks on dogs in Attica

Authorities in Greece are investigating a series of wolf attacks on both stray and owned dogs within the urban areas of the Municipality of Fyli, specifically in the neighborhoods of Ano Liosia, Fyli (Chasia), and Zefyri. More than 12 dogs have been killed in recent months.

Following an inspection conducted by PESYDAP in collaboration with the Municipality of Fyli, the AGAPAZO Animal Welfare and Cultural Association, and local residents, officials noted that the attacks are occurring within a concentrated area of approximately one square kilometer. Experts suggest that specific wolves may have developed a predatory habit or a food dependency on dogs, viewing the urban environment as a predictable and energy-efficient food source.

PESYDAP President Grigoris Gourdomichalis and the Municipality have agreed to investigate the ecological factors behind this phenomenon. The organization is calling for organized deterrent measures to remove wolves from the urban fabric to ensure public safety, while emphasizing the need to avoid the demonization of wildlife.
