Fyzabad man arrested with cocaine during Independence Day police operations

A man was arrested in Fyzabad on August 31, 2026, after being found in possession of 13.7 grams of cocaine. The arrest occurred around 11 a.m. during an anti-crime exercise conducted by the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) and the Fyzabad/Oropouche CID.

Officers patrolling Solomon Street, Khan Trace, observed the individual behaving suspiciously and attempting to evade police vehicles by walking along a nearby track. A subsequent search of the man's clothing revealed a transparent plastic packet containing the drugs in his pants pocket. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

In a separate part of the day's operations, police conducted Operation Resolute Shield in Maracas, St Joseph. Between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m., officers performed 20 street checks and a roving road traffic exercise on roads including Maracas Royal Road and Acono Road. While no illegal items were discovered during these searches, authorities issued 25 Fixed Penalty Notices for various traffic violations.
