G-BA extends transitional regulations for hip fracture care in Germany

The Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) has extended the transitional regulation regarding the care of hip fractures near the hip joint until the end of 2028.

Medical experts emphasize that rapid mobilization is critical for elderly patients following bone fractures to maintain independence and minimize complications. Traumatologists recommend surgical intervention within a 48-hour window of hospital admission to allow for the management of pre-existing conditions such as diabetes or cardiovascular issues.

Early surgical care and movement starting from the first day post-operation are intended to reduce the risks of pneumonia, thrombosis, and infection, thereby improving patient prognosis and lowering mortality rates.
