G DATA study: 70% of German employees trust IT department cybersecurity

A study titled ‘Cybersecurity in Numbers,’ conducted by G DATA CyberDefense, Statista, and brand eins, reveals that 70 percent of employees in Germany believe their IT departments are well-equipped to handle IT security.

While trust in IT departments is high, the research highlights varying assessments of security across different departments. Approximately 23 percent of German workers believe their companies are only partially secured and possess vulnerabilities, though only 7 percent categorize security gaps as a high risk.

Andreas Lüning, co-founder and board member at G DATA CyberDefense AG, noted that while high trust is a strong signal, the upcoming NIS-2 directive will make cybersecurity a primary responsibility for management. He emphasized that effective protection requires shared responsibility between executive leadership and specialized departments, rather than viewing security solely as an IT task.
