g1 news portal celebrates 20 years of digital journalism
The Brazilian news portal g1 has marked its 20th anniversary, having launched on September 18, 2006. Originally established by Globo to expand its digital presence during the early stages of internet popularization in Brazil, the portal has evolved from a web-based news source into a multiplatform operation.
Today, the outlet employs approximately 400 journalists who produce over 600 pieces of content daily. To adapt to modern consumption habits, the portal is shifting its focus toward vertical videos and interactive experiences to compete with social media platforms. Rodolfo Bastos, Globo’s publishing products director, noted that the goal is to provide reliable, contextualized information across various touchpoints, including apps, podcasts, and social networks.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the portal is also updating its ‘g1 em 1 minuto’ segment on Globo’s television programming to incorporate digital-first language and vertical video formats.
