G20 energy ministers meet in Houston amid global fuel market volatility

The United States is hosting G20 energy ministerial meetings in Houston, Texas, from September 14 to 16. The discussions aim to address energy abundance, reliability, and security amid significant global market volatility.

A Russian delegation, including representatives from the energy, foreign, and natural resources ministries, will participate in the talks. The inclusion of Russian officials follows recent diplomatic activity, including the attendance of Finance Minister Anton Siluanov at a previous G20 meeting in North Carolina, which drew criticism from Ukraine’s European allies.

The meetings take place against a backdrop of rising oil and gas prices driven by conflict in the Middle East. Following attacks by the US and Israel on Iran in February, global fuel markets have faced disruption, contributing to record-high diesel prices in the United States. The G20 gathering includes delegations from major economies such as China, India, Japan, and Germany, alongside major oil producers like Canada and Saudi Arabia.
