G42 considers selling majority stake to U.S. firms for chip access

Abu Dhabi-based artificial intelligence firm G42 is exploring the sale of a majority stake to American companies. The move is intended to secure long-term access to advanced semiconductor chips, as current arrangements allowing the firm to purchase high-tech AI hardware without a U.S. license are set to expire around April 2027.

Options under consideration include bringing in an American company as a majority shareholder or establishing an entirely new entity within the United States. G42, which is chaired by UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has previously divested from Chinese-linked holdings and hardware to align with international security standards.

The company already maintains significant ties to the U.S. tech sector, including a $1.5 billion minority stake from Microsoft. Other notable investors include Silver Lake and the Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund, Mubadala Investment Co. G42 continues to rely on hardware from providers such as Nvidia to power its cloud computing, data center, and AI applications.
