G7 backs Trump Iran nuclear deal ahead of signing in Switzerland

At the G7 summit in Évian, France, leaders of the United States, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan and the European Union expressed strong support for the provisional Iran nuclear agreement negotiated by U.S. President Donald Trump. The group called the deal a “historical chance” to prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and pledged to help implement it, including discussions on free shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and security guarantees in the region.

The signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, after being moved from the previously expected venue in Geneva. German officials emphasized that the agreement must be implemented under clear conditions, and the G7 also voiced support for Lebanese efforts to disarm Hezbollah and stabilize southern Lebanon.

The summit’s communiqué highlighted the need for subsequent negotiations toward a comprehensive follow‑up agreement and reaffirmed the G7’s willingness to contribute resources to ensure the deal’s success.
